Mariana Caló & Francisco Queimadela
Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela have worked collaboratively since 2010, developing a practice that spans cinema, moving image, installation, drawing, painting, photography, and sculpture. Across media, they articulate the continuities between lucidity and dream-state, observation and imagination, constructing images that seem to emerge from where the visible and the unseen remain intimately entwined.
Title brings together a constellation of existing and newly commissioned works organised around the transformative relationship between colour and light. Through layered projections, reflections, and moving image, the installation creates an immersive environment of apparitions and afterimages, where forms emerge only to dissolve again.
Animated by movement and time, the works draw attention to the subtle processes through which worlds come into appearance—images moving through sequences of light and darkness, lingering at a threshold of visibility before receding. A dense sonic atmosphere evokes a cosmology grounded in relation, in which seasonal rites, ecological change, and cosmological rhythms are interconnected expressions of a world in perpetual metamorphosis.
Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela live and work in Porto and have been collaborating as a duo since 2010. Their practice is developed through a privileged use of moving images, intersecting installation, site-specific environments, drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, and cinema. The dialogue between the biological, the vernacular, and the cultural is a central element of their artistic work. Recent exhibitions include: To Adore Reflex (Museu Arpad Szenes e Vieira da Silva, 2026); State of Spirit (Municipal Gallery of Porto, 2025), Inverted Karma (Convento dos Capuchos, 2025); Though it’s dark, still I sing (34th São Paulo Biennial, 2021). Their films have been screened at various international festivals over the years, including a retrospective of their work at the 37th edition of FID Marseille in 2026.
