Lucia Martinez Garcia is a filmmaker and artist whose practice moves between experimental fiction and documentary forms, constructing cinematic landscapes shaped by affect, embodiment, and lived experience. In DIHYA, Martinez Garcia turns towards the intimate universe of her sister, Mia, as she navigates gender transition. Inspired by Dihya, the legendary Amazigh warrior and spiritual leader, the film weaves together scenes of daily life, ritualised preparation, performative tableaux, and moments of conversation to create a portrait suspended between tenderness and defiance. Mia inhabits the frame with intensity, moving between shared vulnerability and self-construction as she negotiates presence in a world that refuses to recognise her fully. Through dance and music, the film reveals identity as a continuous process of becoming.
