Vanuit een autobiografische benadering verkent ze familiegeschiedenissen en de continu\u00efteiten tussen herinnering en fictie. Opgegroeid tussen Japan en Belgi\u00eb benadert Spilliaert identiteit als iets dat voortdurend wordt gevormd door geografie, verwantschap en overerving.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Best Things in Life<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> richt zich op drie generaties vrouwen die samenwonen in Tokio. De film volgt Mayuka, de nicht van de kunstenaar, die negentien jaar nadat ze voor het eerst moeder werd, nu net haar derde kind kreeg. Ze koos ervoor om haar kinderen zelfstandig op te voeden, en begint nu aan dit nieuwe hoofdstuk samen met haar tienerdochters Hina en Ciela, die elk op hun beurt een ingrijpende overgang doormaken. Ciela begint aan haar laatste schooljaar en staat oog in oog met de onzekerheden van een eerste liefde; Hina, hostess in een nachtclub, bereidt zich voor om het huis te verlaten.
